マングローブが広がる自然保護区の干潟は、世界でも有数の渡り鳥の飛来地です。
日本や中国など、アジア各地からやってくる渡り鳥は、ここで越冬を終えると、風と共に旅立っていきます。
北極圏から赤道の遥か彼方まで何千キロも飛行する旅鳥は、往来の途中、この中継地点で一休みしたあと、
目的地を目指し、力強く羽ばたいていきます。
渡り鳥も旅鳥も、ここで養った英気を翼に乗せ、セブ島の空を高く、高く、隊列を組んで舞い上がって行きます。
それはまるで、セブ島で生きた英語や国際感覚を学び、広い世界へ飛び立つ留学生の姿のよう。
「セブ島留学アップワード」は、“UPWARD（上昇）”と、UP（フィリピン大学の略称）から付けたものです。
フィリピン大学セブ校への交換留学の経験は、国際社会へ踏み出す大きな一歩となることでしょう。
交換留学先としてはまだまだマイナーなフィリピン大学セブ校ですが、先輩から後輩へ、列に連なるかのように、
毎年、交換留学生が渡航してくれています。
鳥たちが迷わず目的地にたどり着けるのは、太陽の位置や、星座の位置を頼りにナビゲーションできるからだそう。
